Kings of Spain. From the Catholic Monarchs to Juan Carlos I
This is a list of the kings of Spain from Charles I to Juan Carlos I. It is a simplified way to learn the history of Spain but... don´t forget! the concept of "Spain" as a unity is very new, not until nineteenth century. The Catholic Monarchs and many others made a great efford to unify territories but every territory kept on its own laws and priviledges (fueros). It was the Bourbon dinasty who made a real efford to unify and centralise the old Catholic Monarchy, by the way the different territories didn´t forget its own autonomy, so nowadays Spain is one of the most descentralised countries in the world.
