It seems fitting that the Screen Actors Guild has finally acknowledged the talents of actor Javier Bardem and awarded him the golden statue for his role as best supporting actor in “No Country For Old Men”. A successful film which also captured 3 other top honors including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. More importantly, Bardem represents the first time ever a Spanish actor has received such an honor. Having been born into a family of actors, he has finally managed to achieve greatness never bestowed upon another in his country. He had been nominated in his younger years for best leading actor in a biographical film entitled, “Before Night Falls”, but failed to take home the trophy in 2000. Yet, it was quite a different story for him Sunday night in Hollywood. The residents of the country of Spain are delighted in this actor’s achievement. Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa de la Vega appeared on public television in Spain to send congratulations. Also sending congratulations was an opponent in the upcoming election.
